Which type of plastic containers can be microwaved safely? Get to know TIS 2493 Part 1-2554, the standard for plastic food reheating containers

On busy days, grabbing frozen food or a ready-to-eat lunch box and putting it into the microwave has become a regular routine for many people nowadays. This raises a question for many: "How safe are the plastic boxes we are currently using to reheat food in the microwave?" This is because extreme heat can cause certain types of plastic to melt or release dangerous chemical contaminants into our food without our knowledge.

TIS 2493 Part 1-2554 is the Thai Industrial Standard for plastic containers for microwave ovens: for food reheating.

The term "reheating" refers to containers designed to hold food and be placed in a microwave to heat up the food before consumption (not for cooking food from raw to cooked, which takes a long time). This specification regulates everything from the types of plastic resins used to high-level heat resistance.

3 Advantages and reasons to choose TIS 2493 Part 1-2554 plastic. Choosing containers that pass this certification offers benefits that satisfy both general consumers and food-related business operators, as follows

1. High heat resistance, as well as cold resistance from freezing; will not melt or lose shape
Containers certified under TIS 2493 Part 1-2554 must pass rigorous testing by both testing institutes recognized by TISI (Thai Industrial Standards Institute) and the manufacturers regarding high levels of safety, heat resistance, and cold resistance. The plastic will not warp, melt, or lose its shape when exposed to microwave waves and absorbing heat from the food, ensuring safety when handled after microwave reheating is completed.

2. Free from dangerous chemicals and BPA-free
The containers must meet criteria ensuring that no heavy metals or BPA groups from the raw materials leach into the food when exposed to high heat. These chemicals are among the risk factors that cause hormonal abnormalities.

3. Food flavor remains unchanged, with no plastic odor contamination
For TIS 2493 Part 1-2554 plastic, high-quality, high-durability, and Food-Grade plastic resins must be used. Testing is required for safety, durability, odor, and taste to ensure that the container does not affect the original quality and flavor of the food.

Because the heat involved in reheating food in plastic containers requires special caution, investing in plastic containers with the TIS 2493 Part 1-2554 mark (which can be observed from the barcode sticker or the embossed certification logo on the product) is a worthwhile investment for good long-term hygiene and the health of users.

Elevate your standards with safe packaging. Our factory is a manufacturer of microwave-safe plastic containers that are certified under TIS 2493 Part 1-2554 for reusable use, ensuring absolute safety at a Food-Grade level.
